I went to the Melbourne International Flower Show earlier this month. Here is some of what I saw.

Fashioned after Miro.

A little busy, but arresting.

Evil man-eating plants!

Cottage gardens were the thing – they usually are. Although this year there was a noticeable absence of, or at least not the same prominence given to, drought resistant plants. We garden lovers are a wee bit bit sick of those, thank you very much.

And gaily colored leaves are always popular.

And inside the glorious Exhibition Building, a wall of red.
All in all quite satisfying. I like it in the Exhibition Gardens, which appear to survive the annual onslaught. A very diverse crowd – Melbourne in all its glory. We love our gardens. I have planted my 50 scented freesias bought at this year’s show, along with my 20 or so hyacinth bulbs from years gone by which successfully bloom when they should. Also a selection of rare and unusual plants bought at small cost in tiny tubes – just to see how they go. And a wall hanging pot plant with room for three lots of something – herbs for me – made out of recycled plastic bottles (a rather lurid green which will soon be covered over hopefully). Seemed like a good idea at the time!
