I've overcome my aversion to hydrangeas - caused by their proliferation in the front garden at Mary's Mount. I had some lovely flowers last year but I'm not optimistic about getting any this year - given the current state of the plants. But we will see. All of these photos were taken on 29 November 2020. I need to know when I should expect a … [Read more...] about Hydrangeas & Fuschias & Hanging Baskets

Camellias & Yamina Rare Plants
It's been a stellar year for camellias - thanks to the absence of possums! I went three or more years without a bloom. They come at different times. This, my very first planted, comes first. A New Garden, All-spice tree, Magnolia stellata, Hellebores
We created a new garden last year, where the pistachio tree had been. Here is how it is pictured in October 2020. There's a picture of the tree coming down in this post. I'm now … [Read more...] about The Edible Garden
Hyacinths
The impetus for writing all of these gardening blogs comes from this. I have the most wonderful assortment of hyacinth bulbs. They were magnificent last year after I ordered bulbs from Tessalar during our first big lockdown here in Melbourne. I received 30 - a mixture of Apricot Passion, Blue Star, China Pink, Purple Voice, Blue Giant and … [Read more...] about Hyacinths
Wendy Whitely’s Secret Garden
Isn't a secret garden anymore! While in Sydney in April we visited, on a smokey (thanks to controlled burn offs in the Blue Mountains I think) overcast day. It was quite beautiful. Lots of little nooks and crannies where you could sit and larger parts with tables and chairs where you could picnic. Lovely views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the … [Read more...] about Wendy Whitely’s Secret Garden
