So, before I leave January 2024, a final blog about 2023 activities. While in Brisbane to see Opera Australia's Ring Cycle (described here) we visited the Queensland Art Gallery. These are some of the paintings that took my fancy. There were quite a few works by Indigenous artists including some very early ones from the 1940's I think, and some … [Read more...] about Queensland Art Gallery
Living in Melbourne
Deanne Gilson. Karrap Karrap Beenyak – Flower Baskets of Knowledge.
We went to the opening of this exhibition on Saturday 5th November 2023. It's on at the Dainesinger Gallery in Weston Street Brunswick (just down from Doherty's Gym) until 16th December. The paintings are wonderful, as I expected because I've been to an exhibition of Deanne's before which I've written about here - it's interesting to revisit that … [Read more...] about Deanne Gilson. Lambley Nursery
I visited Lambley Nursery about which I've heard much praise, on the 24th of September, when Instagram told me the garden was at its loveliest and again on the 2nd of October 2023 when girlfriends - and very knowledgeable - gardeners were free to go. Ballarat International Foto Biennale
We visited this on the 17th of September, which feels an age ago though it's not really. We only spent a day and so didn't get to see as much as I would have liked. Nevertheless there were lots of terrific exhibits. My favourite was How to Fly by Erik Johansson from Sweden; exhibited in the Mining Exchange which was the perfect venue for his large … [Read more...] about Ballarat International Foto Biennale

It's described on the RISING program as a new First Peoples exhibition curated by Kimberley Moulton a Yorta Yorta woman from Victoria. The program claimed visitors would: Be immersed in Ancestral … [Read more...] about Shadow Spirit
Rembrandt: True to Life
I was unsure about this exhibition which is closing at the NGV on 10 September but I'm very glad I went. It is mostly etchings - over 100 of the 314 prints he made in his lifetime are on display. Many owned by the NGV. It also includes what are described as key paintings from the NGV and on loan from other museums. So, starting with the etchings, … [Read more...] about Rembrandt: True to Life
