I awakened to a migraine! A monthly occurrence not entirely unexpected and not due to the three glasses of Chardonnay last night although probably not helped by that. So a quiet morning. Staying off my devices - iPad and iPhone. Joe and I went back to Galerie Lafayette to buy an additional bag - needed after my spending spree! A French woman … [Read more...] about Berlin – Day Nine. Berlin – Day Eight. Silent Heroes. Philharmonic. (7/10/22)
Today we visited The German Resistance / Silent Heroes Memorial. It’s a solemn space and pretty grim. We met our neighbour Berkhardt’s brother Wolfgang outside and he took us through. Their family is referenced in the German Resistance section. The stories of individuals and groups who took action against the Nazis are told by way of … [Read more...] about Berlin – Day Eight. Our guide Janna has worked here as a volunteer, done some workshops here and now produces paper art herself. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was terrific and we were all pleased it was included … [Read more...] about Berlin – Day Eight. Paper Art. (7/10/22)
Berlin – Day Seven. Siegfried. (6/10/22)
A quiet day before our third opera. I wrote a couple of blogs then took some photos of where I’d been doing it, in the hotel lobby. It’s all very art deco. Then, after a quick lunch of caesar salad, off to see Siegfried. Our little group has stopped talking about the production; ”There’s no point” says Ellen from Washington. Indeed. Most are … [Read more...] about Berlin – Day Seven. Siegfried. (6/10/22)
Berlin – Day Six. Potsdam. (5/10/22)
Still the 5th of October, after Sans Souci we had lunch in a restaurant called The Flying Dutchman. Apart from the name nothing seemed to link it to either the opera or its composer. We had a room to ourselves upstairs which was nice. It was located in a part of Potsdam designed to look like a traditional Dutch township. Built by Friederich … [Read more...] about Berlin – Day Six. Potsdam. (5/10/22)
