Miss And The Doctors 1 star. The star is only because the three leads were very attractive and it was set in Paris. Two doctors living in each other’s pockets (never explained) do good by their patients, fall for the mother of one (a most unlikely glamorous barmaid) at first sight, then they (the brothers) part ways (which they should have done much earlier). Totally unengaging. Just not enough back story or context to be meaningful in any way whatsoever.
10,000 Kilometres 2 stars. This made its point – long distance relationships are hard – and maybe fatal. But it did so ponderously. Maybe deliberately to evoke the tedium of trying to keep in touch via Skype and text but I think not. Would have been better if there was some attention given to life away from the computer but outside life only occasionally intruded on the angst of ‘us’. To the film’s detriment. A truthful finale lifted it.
The Story Of My Death 5 stars. Loved this long immersion in Cassanova’s chateau and Dracula’s forest. So many beautiful scenes – too numerous to recount. In fact nearly every artful shot. As we descended into Dracula’s gothic world the film itself got murkier and darker until we were peering into the gloom of the forest itself. The light – or rather the dark – itself was a character in the film as the director said in the Q&A after. A really great cinematic experience. Here’s the trailer.
